The winners of the 14th Russian Mining Excellence Award competition were announced in Moscow on 7 October at the MINEX Russia 2020 forum in Moscow.

The annual competition “Russian Mining Excellence Award” was established by the MINEX Forum in 2007 with the aim of independent evaluation and popularisation of outstanding achievements in the mining industry in Russia.

Over the years, the competition has become a Russian “Mining Oscar”. Leading companies and specialists are competing every year to participate in this prestigious Award.

The competition is open to Russian and international participants from prospecting, mining and metallurgical companies, consulting and research organisations, banks and investment companies engaged in various activities related to mineral exploration, production and processing of metals & minerals, as well as improving production safety, human capital development, mining financing and investments.

Nomination "Mining Project of the Year"

Finalists: Highland Gold Mining and Polymetal International

Winner: Polymetal International

Achievement: Introduction of a complex for managing the stability of opencast elements in open pit mining in difficult mining conditions of sharply dissected relief at the Nezhdaninskoye deposit.

Nomination "Exploration Project of the year"

This year, the projects submitted for the competition did not meet the criteria of the competition. By the decision of the jury, the award was postponed to the next year.

Nomination "Investment Project of the Year"

Finalists: Kinross Gold Corporation and Highland Gold Mining

Winner: Kinross Gold Corporation

Achievement: The Kinross Gold Group of Companies acquired for $ 283 million USD the project for the development of the Chulbatkan field in the Khabarovsk Territory.

Nomination "Innovative Solution of the Year"

Finalists: Highland Gold Mining, FGBU VIMS, PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel, Polymetal International

Winner: PJSC “MMC” Norilsk Nickel”

Achievement: Implementation of the underground infrastructure and dispatching program (includes the construction of infrastructure at 7 mines of the company and the implementation of an automated management system for mining operations (ASUGR). Nomination "Social responsibility"

Nomination "HR project of the year"

Finalists: Highland Gold Mining, Polymetal International and a joint project of the National Research Technological University (MISiS), Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and Karakan Invest.

Achievement: Creation of the double diploma Master’s program “Strategic Management of International Mineral Resources Companies” by the Interuniversity Educational Consortium, implemented jointly with NUST “MISIS” and MGIMO.

Nomination “Environmental Project of the Year”

Winner: Polymetal International

Achievement: Integrated water treatment plant at Gold of the Northern Urals (Polymetal International) using reverse osmosis technology.
