Plasma technologies for metallurgy

The research, developmental, trial scientific works which are carried out within 40 years allowed to bring plasma technologies to trial operation on the basis of own created plasma equipment and plasma systems which according to the conclusion of the academician B.E. Patton, have no analogs on reliability, stability and a resource of work, and each quickly replaceable cathode allows
continuous operation of the plasmatron for 200 hours.
These works made it possible for the first time in the world to successfully and economically carry out direct reduction of metals (black, non-ferrous, rare) to
chemically pure state of concentrates of ores (sludge) by plasma method bypassing all traditional stages of metallurgical process with cost 2.5-10 times cheaper than traditional ones, and ecological component to be improved by 9 times by formation of slags till their complete absence and by 27 times by emissions of gases into atmosphere. More than 10,000 tons of various metals were thus produced.
Plasma smelts will allow several times more efficient production of refractory, instrumental, electrical, ship, armored steels, carbides, nitrides and composite materials based on them.
